Sun Mountain 2011 SLX Golf Stand Bag Review

Ask any golfer, “What are the characteristics of a good golf bag?” Well, let’s see; it needs to be able to hold a couple of tees, a number of balls, and your clubs of course. A pretty simple, basic concept. But if all of that’s truly the case, then why on earth are there so many alternate kinds of golf bags on the market right this very minute.

Next time you’re out on the course, a really busy weekend maybe, look around you. Check out all the different golfers—could be 400 of them maybe—and every single one has their own distinct golf gear loaded golf bag. All different than the one before.

You’ll find extremely skinny bags carried over the shoulder, stand bags, hard bags, staff bags and maybe even the old fashioned bag of leather like Granddad used to carry. Or any number of things that remotely fall under the heading of ‘golf bag’. You do in fact, probably think you’ve seen it all when it comes to the good old golf bag… but have you really?

How Does It Look

At first glance, it appears similar to any number of other stand bags that can be purchased anywhere around the globe; it contains its backpack strap system (just like all the other average stand bags); and it of course has legs built to keep it standing up when you need to put down the bag (just like all the others); so that from a quick peek it pretty much appears to have most everything that other stand bags have to offer their owners.

This is, however, where the similarities come to a grinding halt. The announcement of a new concept in golf bags was made in the form of a press release which stated that these lightweight carry golf bags are more multipurpose and utilitarian than ever before (this was attributed to the new cart-friendly, 2011 features) with the ability to function equally well as cart bags or carry bags.

Golfer’s Comments

One reviewer’s story: as soon as he opened the box he was amazed at how ‘cool’ the bag actually appeared. Of course he had seen pictures before the actual receipt of the product, but it was obvious now that those pictures did not tell the whole entire story. The colors were in a word, gorgeous. This particular reviewer had the color scheme consisting of gun metal/royal blue/and black.

The patterns were impressive and matched perfectly with his speed cart. Upon removal from the box he could not help but notice how low light the bag was. He was astonished to say the least, and had never realized that it was possible for a golf bag to be this lightweight.

Of course right away he had to start zipping and unzipping the seven pockets and digging through every one. As he did so it suddenly occurred to him; storage was not going to be a problem in the least. And so he began to move all the things from his old bag to his new one and realized something else; he was a pack rat.

You name it he keeps in his bag; sunscreen, lip balm, bug spray, rule book, pencils, marker, tools for divot repair, ball markers, tees, balls… Everything but the kitchen sink. And yet the new bag held all. He had been sure something would have to go because the bag appeared smaller than his old bag.

Cost Factor

Prices vary depending on where you purchase your bag from, however; Amazon has this bag listed for $190 (they even offer free shipping in many cases when over $25.00 is spent). The price is the same as with other online golf stores.

Reputation

As with so many golfers today, you may not feel like you have the game to be utilizing a staff bag, yet you don’t always utilize a riding cart either; so you can’t honestly make the commitment to a cart bag. You probably even walk on occasion so you may find attractive, the whole idea of a stand bag. But then what about when you do ride? That stand bag isn’t really going to be considered utilitarian when it comes down to strapping it to a cart, whether it’s a pushcart or something else.

What if you could find the perfect answer for the exact type of bag you require? One reviewer who had spent most of his time walking around while utilizing his Sun Mountain Speed Cart recently purchased the Sun Mountain Speed Cart Bag. Sometimes referred to as the SCB, but it wasn’t adaptable to carrying around. Thankfully, he then purchased the Sun Mountain 2011 SLX. He’s never been happier.Let’s Wrap It Up!

As a final note on this Sun Mountain Bag, all the golfers out there have seen bags come and go; stand up bags themselves have been evolving for a good 25 years. The body of the SLX bag is configured for the ultimate level of utility with its three integrated handles (patent-pending) and the most advanced stand up system yet. The SLX Golf Stand Bag is perfect for the golfer who either rides a cart or wants to carry his bag for a change. It is the ultimate in state of the art golf bags.
